SUMMARY:An intimate tale of waiting (NAC French Theatre)
DESCRIPTION:Bilingual French Theatre production presented by NAC French Theatre. Three theatrical stars sparkle in a rare alignment: a brilliant director\, a radiant actress and the Sun herself\, Annie Ernaux\, the masterful chronicler of anonymous others. Using her pen as a scalpel\, she dissects a heart consumed by passion: her own. \nMany of us have read and reread the work of literature Nobel prize winner Ernaux\, but how many of us have ever heard it performed on stage? Unyielding theatrical mastermind Brigitte Haentjens has invited the stellar Julie Le Breton to channel the voice of this unique French author. On stage\, a woman waits hours\, day\, weeks by the phone. She is expecting a call from her Lover\, a married foreign diplomat. Between the ecstasy of ephemeral lovemaking and the despair of absence\, she observes her own fall from grace with stunning lucidity. The language is sharp and cutting\, with occasional delicate sprinkles of humour. \nTo experience this intimate\, autobiographical tale with sensitivity\, the audience must suspend all moral judgment and accept that they will see the author of Se perdre launch herself\, body and soul\, into the maw of two impetuous monsters: loving and writing.

SUMMARY:Alone in the Dark - Cumberland Heritage Village Museum
DESCRIPTION:This immersive guided paranormal investigation invites participants to explore a series of historic buildings after dark\, including a church\, schoolhouse\, train station and family home. Led by experienced hosts\, the experience incorporates both traditional and modern investigative techniques\, encouraging observation and personal interpretation. Designed for curious participants\, this small-group experience offers a quiet\, atmospheric alternative to conventional tours. \nThis is not a ghost tour. It is a guided paranormal investigation\, and YOU are part of it. Over two hours\, we’ll explore four heated heritage buildings: the old church\, the schoolhouse\, the train station\, and the family home. With the village closed to the public and only a handful of guests exploring after dark\, the experience feels immersive\, quietly eerie\, and far removed from an ordinary night out. \nAlong the way\, our expert hosts will guide you through paranormal experiments using both ancient and modern techniques. You will listen closely. You will observe carefully. You will decide for yourself what\, if anything\, still lingers there. \nSome guests come for the thrill. Some for the atmosphere. Some because they have always been curious about what they cannot explain. What they share is curiosity and the willingness to find out. Nothing is staged. Nothing is guaranteed. That is what makes Alone in the Dark so compelling. \n6 nights remain. \nSpaces are limited. Reserve your spot now. Nights are few. Participants must be 16+. Choose curiosity over fear.

SUMMARY:THE INVISIBLE - Agents of Ungentlemanly Warfare
DESCRIPTION:Film noir musical by Catalyst Theatre based on real female WWII operatives. Genre-busting multilingual production blending spy fiction\, graphic novel aesthetics\, and original music. Ages 13+. Running through May 9. \nThis unlikely musical draws its story from the real-life international team of female agents who comprised the “Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” during World War II. Catalyst Theatre reimagines their struggle through a 21st century lens while drawing inspiration from historical research\, film noir\, spy fiction\, and graphic novels. What can only be described as a genre-busting\, multilingual\, thrilling film-noir musical is a contemporary portrait of seven extraordinary women who risked their lives to fight a dangerous war through sabotage\, propaganda\, and espionage. \nThe Invisible marks a return to the rich creative partnership of Jonathan Christenson and Bretta Gerecke\, who have collaborated on more than 20 original Canadian productions. This show stunningly delivers Catalyst’s hallmark visually and sonically immersive storytelling for larger stages\, while seamlessly blending image\, sound\, text\, and movement into an unforgettable theatre-going experience. \nDeveloped with support from the National Arts Centre’s National Creation Fund.\nDeveloped with additional support from Vertigo Theatre\, Keyano Theatre and the Dianne & Irving Kipnes Foundation.

SUMMARY:Chamberfest Concert Series - Le Consort Laurentien x Lagrime
DESCRIPTION:Make sure to catch an incredible music show from this Concert Series this fall and winter. Featuring Canadian and international artists\, this season’s Concert Series is sure to be one of Chamberfest™’s best series to date \nLe Consort Laurentien x Lagrime\nMacKay United | 39 Dufferin Rd\, Ottawa\, ON K1M 2H3\nTonight\, we welcome Quebec-born Basel-based Maximilien Brisson to present a concert highlighting the virtuosity and expressive power of the seldom-heard Baroque trombone. His ensembles Lagrime and Le Consort laurentien come together with tenor Charles Daniels to present a poignant programme of Italian and German Baroque repertoire\, drawn from Brisson’s recent album Scorrete lagrime mie\, which explores the theme of tears through works by Italian Baroque composers such as Barbara Strozzi\, Francesca Caccini\, and Sigismondo d’India. As a special treat for tonight’s audience\, the two ensembles extend this exploration into the German region of Saxony\, adding works by composers including Heinrich Schütz and Andreas Hammerschmidt\, both active during the Thirty Years’ War (1618–1648). \nA rich mix of vocal and instrumental works\, this programme examines how composers from Italy and Saxony approached the expression of tears in music\, in times of both turmoil and peace. The ensembles’ distinctive instrumentation – trombone\, violin\, cornetto\, and harpsichord – adds an element of rarity to the evening. Tonight’s performance offers a compelling opportunity to hear Baroque music performed on period instruments by specialists in the field\, illuminating one of the most iconic emotional themes of the Baroque era: music of fervor\, resilience\, and hope.
